AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS - The Breed
Australian Shepherds aka "Aussies" are even-tempered wonderful pets, remaining puppy-like even in their adult years. This spirited dog makes a good watchdog for the home and are excellent with kids, they love to frolic and play! They are a devoted, loyal friend and are naturally protective. Warm, lively, very agile and conscientious - they are eager to please. Australian Shepherds are known for their high intelligent and are easy to train. The Aussie is gentle with human friends, though they can be strong and aggressive when working with livestock. If you have the right temperament the Aussie is the friend for you!The exact origin of the Australian Shepherd is unknown.
However, it is generally accepted that it evolved from sheep
dogs imported into the Western U.S. by the Basque shepherds
from the Pyrenees mountain region of Spain. The
Australian Shepherd was developed as a herding breed and
most will exhibit herding traits.
